Who better to design the "shopping center of the future" than technology genius Google? We're guessing that's the question Lake Nona Developer, Tavistock Development, asked themselves when enlisting a partner in crime. Intersection, a sister company of Google, is known for integrating technology into urban projects, much like the Lake Nona Town Center. According to Orlando Business Journal, Tavistock's vice president, Robert Thompson, was quoted saying "With us, we’ve asked them to examine the ever-changing retail industry, how can we bridge the digital world with brick-and-mortar." One of the concepts they are talking about are touch-screen kiosks on sidewalks and parking garages with sensors to guide drivers to open spots. Thompson was also quoted saying “We are trying to create solutions to problems that people aren’t even talking about yet,” We can't wait to see what they have in store.
Construction on the project is expected to begin this September. According to Orlando Business Journal, The Pixon is proposed to have 201 unites, including six micro residences with less than 400 square feet. There is also a 1,730 square-foot penthouse for those who need a bit more space. Bluetooth-enabled security entrances are also said to be in the works. Other property amenities will include a rooftop lounge, a 3-D printer and a 24-hour fitness center. The 32,500 square-foot ground floor will include a restaurant/bar, retail space, pharmacy and cafe. Additional amenites include a concierge service, gaming arcade, 24-hour fitness center and last but not least, Orlando's first Tesla ride sharing system.
Lake Nona is growing, and it's not just by people. New retailers are popping up left and right to keep up with Lake Nona's flourishing population. The brand new $100 million Lake Nona Landing shopping center will be home to 15 of these new businesses. Here are the one's that have been announced so far:
Lowes will be the largest project totaling 158,000 sq. ft. The location will include a 37,200 sq. ft. garden center, an indoor lumber yard and 484 parking spaces according to Orlando Business Journal. Check back for updates on the remaining retailers who will occupy the shopping center.
Agents Chris Pixley and Steve Fusilier of Fusilier Realty Group represented developer and Floriday President, Randy June, in purchasing and selling a 19-acre assemblage off of Boggy Creek Road last week. Fusilier assisted Mr. June in purchasing the five parcels for a combined $2M that has been sold to D.R. Horton for $2.7M to be a new 95-lot subdivision called Osprey Ridge. Check back for updates.
